Bacterial vaginosis and preterm birth: In contrast, the microbiome profiles of African American samples exhibited higher diversity even when they contained lactobacilli. Distance was measured using the Bray—Curtis method. We wanted to determine whether these differences occurred in healthy women or were evident primarily in women with a diagnosis of BV. These results support and extend previous findings that there are significant differences in the vaginal microbiome related to ethnicity and demonstrate that these differences are pronounced even in healthy women.
